hi, alongside the fantastic four project, i work on a xmen game, its my vision of how i think the xmen arcade game had to be in terms of gameplay


it will have the main 6 characters
brown wolverine
nighcrawler
colossus
dazzler
cyclops
storm

plus the npcs that later may become secret playables
iceman
havok
banshee
angel/archangel
sunfire
beast
yellow wolverine

the game will have the same gameplay as i use on fantastic four, but it will be more simple to develop because they wont have many platforms to be build and such.
this helps me keep working when i got bored from on superhero theme i switch to other and keep things compatible for a future crossover :)

for the bosses i want keep some and change others

magneto   
apocalypse  ->instead of those pharaos with scythe

sabretooth  -> instead of wendigo

giant sentinel -> instead of nimrod

i want ideas to keep the same stages but create a better plot for this game :)

the stages:


1 streets  ---> anti mutant force on the streets?
2 sentinel factory
3 isle m  --> should be changed to savage land?
4 cave 
5 temple ---> apocalypse temple
6 asteroid m
7 final battle

Hey... there are Classic Cyclops sprites?!? Never seen those.
I see Wolverine and Colossus are dressed oldschool too, but are you planning to use classic uniform for all characters? I'd LOVE to see classic Storm, (I've seen only a few sprite edits).

I love that the Sentinel is B.I.G. (maybe too big). I hated how small they are in the XCotA - though I also have a few comments on its attacks and stances, but let's not look a gift horse in the mouth... ;)

I also like the big stages, but maybe you could lower the resolution a bit, so characters don't get too small on big TVs and android phones.

they all will use the 1980 uniforms on this game

wolverine sprites are almost finished
cyclops already finished
and storm need to be done yet
dazzler will require some new sprites for air attacks

the backgrounds are not finished yet im doing some tests to see what fit best
 
Man, that project looks promising though I'm not a fan of/I don't know much about the 80's X-Men!

The stages look stretched but they look good to me. (Need someone to edit some stages for you to match your taste.)
 
I can see your idea of using big resolution + rescaled background for this mod.
I hope sentinels aren't the only reason you choose this resolution IOW there should be other big entities in action
Or you can have long range fights since there's wide space here. Well, works well with Cyclops & Storm but not Wolverine and Colossus

Speaking of sentinels, I don't understand why you have a smaller version of them

Oh yes, are you sure about rescale size? somehow I feel like characters are too small compared to background

Anyways, I'm looking forward to how this mod is going to be :)
 
yeah i have plans for big entitys on that resolution

i changed the streched background to a normal one using the android version rips of this game
the last picture with hud attached are using normal sized sprites for background
 
hmm this is intresting hey man if you still need to use emma as a boss i believe she was a boss in that game you are more than welcome
 
Looks good man, I can imagine already after seeing your other mod.  be just as good except X-men as the theme ;D

the second one with HUD looks good, but it's a shame to have to cut off the big chars head...

I know your pain, the resolution and play area thing is holding me back on a few attempted mods.  :(
Are you using mode 6 or a custom res? Remember you can have any you want now. 

So for example.

You could maybe try making a custom palette for sentinel before resizing, like add some extra colours and shading.  So when it's resized he's not just purple and blue shades.  Anyhow I imagine the trick will just be good sound effects and animation to make it convincing that he is really big and not just resized. Slow walk speed, quakeframe in walking anim (does that work?), nice loud footsteps sfx. (maybe even a dust entity for walking anim)
 
to avoid cut the big sentinels heads by the hud i decided at the second stage called sentinel factory use an alternate hud that does not have the upper part of the hud just the down part

this way we can see the big sentinels as they should, for the other stages i will need have back the upper hud part because it hides some non graphical stage parts

so i have created a really big second stage to we enjoy beating those sentinels this stage will be 2-1 2-2 and 2-3 parts so then the sentinel base will be destroyed and no more giant sentinels in the game and i can keep the entire hud up and down....

the heroes will face another big creatures but those their heads wont will be cut by the hud

 
hmm maybe try to resize the sentienl in photoshop using a good filter first changing the pal to darker colors so it doest look so blurry because it doesnt look like it matches the rest of the chars
 
hum, thre are things I don't like:

- Those filtered sprites are ugly
- you are mixing many pixel sizes, which its not good. The chars have one pixel size, the bg has other and the filtered is other.

aside that, its a cool project
 
i have changed the backrground to his normal pixel size, the sentinel i will try to find another way to make big ones

 
did you have tried "rotation sprite" program to scale it up.
It's not magic, but can give nice scalling results.

Also, for this gigantic scale, I'm not sure of the result quality, but give it a try.
 
thanks, this one will be the same core as war of the gems but more similar with the fantastic four project, i got bored with fantastic four theme so i startet this one until i get back in the mood for fantastic four theme...

but i think xmen is a more easy theme to work on than fantastic four... the good part is my projects share the same core and all things i do are compatible with my other projects and every new system or move mechanics one project have can be easily ported to the other, and that is good becuase i have plans for many other marvel games :P
