Why does Rick have a lifebar displayed if he dies in a single hit and has no extra lives? Thankfully there are plenty of continues. These Goombas and Koopas are also unusually tough to battle; when I respawned once, one of them spawncamped me to death, due to a lack of sufficient mercy invincibility. Otherwise, the idea is pretty interesting to see Rick go to other worlds in pursuit of the Fat Guy. He's technically a Squeenix character, so... perhaps Final Fantasy could be a future world? Or could he form an army of other forgotten Squeenix characters, sorta like Epic Mickey and Captain Rainbow?

Let's say Goomba and Koopa were helped by the fat boy to get stronger.
I tried to follow the difficulties of Rick's old games were very difficult.
With a little bit of effort you can complete the game.
For the sequel I still don't know where they will go.

I’m sure there’s a way to not show a lifebar if you want him to die in one hit, such as by moving its axis over to an offscreen position. And I think he needs more lives alongside his continues. I see that the lifebar is used as an energy bar for his gun as well... maybe add an MP bar for it? I feel like if there were an "Original" (dies in one hit, no mercy invincibility) difficulty and an "Easy" difficulty (mercy invulnerability and life bar) the game would become more engaging and accessible than it was before.

I do. There are scripts to produce ladders and climbing in OpenBOR;

This will allow for a closer recreation of the original mechanics.

Yes, I knew but I prefer to stay on the scrolling fighting game theme. if I want to make a platform I prefer to use a program suitable for these types of games.

Would be a good base for a more advanced gameplay game.

My feedback.
-Seems like there is a lot of delay when you shoot/jump etc. makes the action a bit slow.
-When character spawns, seems like there is not (enough) invincibility frames, making sometime spawn and get killed before to even land on ground.
-hitbox of items like coins could be slightly smaller (on the sides) Height is OK.
-the fact attacks use some lifebar is a bit too much. merhaps a magic bar would be better. Then the magic bar regenerate slowly.

Glad to see such project.
It really want me to try some 2D mod in the future...

Well, you can create platformer with OpenBoR. You just need to learn basic platforming setting, place some platforms in levels aaand you have a platformer :).
