So my JXD s602 came in the mail.

In some aspects I'm a little unsatisfied, but overall it's not bad.

For starters, it uses MicroSD cards, NOT normal SD cards. But it's all good, because I was able to buy a 32GB MicroSD for the price of a 16GB SD.

One thing I have to mention is that you MUST set it up manually at first. And by that, I mean rooting it and installing a custom ROM. The JXD ROM that it comes with is extremely slow and all-around terrible. After using this turtorial, the device works a whole lot better. However, this process is very confusing at first and can be a real headache. In fact, it took about 3-4 hours for me to figure out how to do it. But in all fairness, this was my first real experience with an Android device, so maybe it was just me.

The Wi-Fi receiver is... well, non-existent. I literally have to stand next to my router in order to get any Wi-Fi, but that may just be my personal device. You never know what you'll get when it comes to bootleg Chinese products.

The built quality is surprisingly decent. You obviously don't want to drop it anytime soon, but it at least feels like a mainstream product. The buttons are a little stiff, and the D-Pad can be a hindrance in some games, but overall it's not bad. The one thing I have to mention is that the analogue stick is NOT a real analogue stick. I mean, it works and all, but it's not separate hardware. Basically, the analogue stick is the same thing as the D-Pad. This isn't too much of a problem in N64 games, but I just thought I'd let you know.

And how does it handle games? Pretty good, actually. I still prefer my PSP for a lot of the emulation, but overall I'm satisfied. N64 is about 90% full speed, and Snes has a slight delay in sound effects. I haven't found a good (free) PC-Engine CD emulator, and the same with Sega CD. Saturn is obviously slow, but the emulator was only released a week ago. Genesis doesn't sound quite right, and the colors are slightly off on the NES one. MAME is alright, but as always, is a headache to setup. As for Android games? All I've tried are Sonic 4: Episode 2 Lite and Sonic CD Lite. They play just fine.

In the end, if you have a homebrew PSP, don't make the switch just yet. Wait until some better emulators come out on the Android market. The JXD s602 isn't a bad device, but there's no rush to run out and grab one just yet.

i just started using the psp for open bor and it crashes to a blue screen often.
Im really considering this device.

best android emus for snes, nes and megadrive http://www.explusalpha.com/home/md-emu

Blech. No one should have to pay money for an emulator. Looks like I'll just have to do some Google searching.

it came from china directly? did you have to pay many importation taxes?
here in brazil the taxes costs are 60% of total product value plus some other things that makes buy from china a very bad idea and people have to use some tricks to buy to bypass the abusive high taxes :(

i really want to buy one "android in box" like yours but im afraid to be chosen to recieve a high tax bill when recieve the product

Thanks for the report Nick!

Uhmm I think I'll wait a little while, but really considering to buy this product.
The deal breaker is all that  setup you need to do at the beginning...

these are free and have best speed and controls from all that i tested

I had to download pirated apk's to install them. Most of the emulators on that site have to be purchased. Only Saturn.emu (very early beta/barely works) and Snes9x EX were free.

Mine was from the US, so I only paid $4.99 in shipping.

Yes, it was quite a headache! For a while the Play Store wouldn't even load right. But after some tinkering and patience, it all worked. Having used the device for two full days now, I'm actually liking it a lot. I just wish there was good Saturn or Dreamcast emulation.  :)

I'm saving for the JXD S7300. Part of the plan was to hook it up to the TV with the HDMI cable for watching movies and TV shows online. I hope The wifi works better on this one. I was interested in how flash games run on yours. Have you tried yet?

snes is free, the genesis uses genesis plus source, NES emu is FCEU sourcecode, i dont think its cool to charge $ for them so i dont know what devs are thinking, there are people out there who did much more their own stuff for free and never charged anyone to buy programs build on free sourcecode.Even n64 emu was paid but its PC version is free, tehres lot of this i suppose on the market, i dont say that every emu should be free but charging for someone elses sorucecode its just lame and not right even if you spent a month porting it.
I guess people will charge as long as they can get away with it, Main reason why someone wants to port the software is because HE needs it ported, there emus were free on PC so why would they cost $ on android, they werent even build from scratch and its not original creators who charge $.

Not yet. I've been too busy trying to install an "acquired" version of Ikaruga. I plan on trying Megaman Next and Stinkoman 20X6 in the near future though, so I'll be sure to report on that.

The good thing is that paid emulators can be installed hassle-free as long as you find the apk. You don't need to patch it for licenses or anything since they mostly work offline. I use All-in-One Toolbox to install apk's, and every emulator apk I've found installed and worked just fine.

Good info. Since the main reason why I'm getting this is to have a handheld product that can run OpenBOR games, I will be contempt with it not running most products after the Genesis/SNES era, since I got them on my laptop anyway. Overall, still seems pretty cool to get.
