Not gonna lie, these are funny indeed (even though the last one makes me realize how much I dislike all Sonic supporting characters that came out after Knuckles, ugh!) but is is the first one that got me laughing. It is just hillarious!  ;D

IDK, I feel a game should have multiple character and variety no matter what type of game this is. Speaking other on the subject, a person blatenly said it's ok for fighters like Marvel Allaince and KOF to have a lot of characters, but not platformers like Sonic. A lot of people go on to also say Mario has a lot of characters and is better because they save the crazy stuff for spin-offs, but let's look at those spin-offs:
Kart racer, party, kart racer, party, RPG, Sports, sports, kart racer, sports.

Sonic friends on the other hand, while having spin-offs of their own, were actually made as there own character with their gameplay. We can complain how slow Silver was in 06, he still was the only one who could throw cars with his powers, as if he were Magneto or Jean Grea.

I do agree with your opinion about character variety since it adds to the replay value of any game regardless of the genre. In more recent fighting games such as KOF this is a no-brainer since most of these rarely feature characters that play exactly alike among each other, unlike older games such as the earlier MK games where characters featured the same normal moves among each other, making these games somewhat dull nowadays.  ::)

Having said that, the Sonic games, in my opinion, are guilty of giving the player an illusion of variety since these tend to add many characters as new games come out yet few of these actually add a new gameplay option for the player to toy around with, focusing instead on giving these annoying personalities. Sonic Heroes in particular was the perfect example of this since although that game featured twelve characters to play as,  you actually get to  merely play with a speedy one (Sonic, Amy, Shadow & Espio), a flying one (Tails, Cream, Rouge & Charmie) and a heavy brawler one (Knuckles, Big, Omega & Vector) which are virtually identical among each others in the same type.  ???

Silver in Sonic 06 at least had its own gameplay gimmick so it was indeed interesting to use regardless of his lack of speed.  :)

All in all, I love games with character options as long as these are not merely based on looks and not on gameplay. Right?  ;)

Quite true, and note, that Demotivator in subject of characters not helping, we actually a jab at sonic fans who complained they ruined the series, and now sonic games for the past 6 years have not featured them in a main title, if you think about it, 06 was the first and only game where silver got to really use his powers. Let's also not forget the fans completely ignored that it's the creators themselves who rushed these games and have full control of what these characters do in game. Sonic games didn't suck because the character stole the spotlight, they sucked because the creators didn't care to actually develop them. Notice in adventure, both Tails and Amy wanted to be more independent, and look what happen in the rest of the games.

I also wanna point out that even though Sonic generations was a decent game, it barely stacks up to games of this generations in content. Think about in, in the genesis days, classic sonic only had other platformers to go against. In the 3D era, sonic adventure 1 and 2 had a lot more going for it with story and other characters, while most 3D games like Mario and Crash were still pretty generic. Now, we have games like God of War, Call of Duty, and Ptototype to deal with, and Generations is out matched in form of content in any way possible:
No real story
other playable characters
repeated gameplay
no multiplayer mode
no variety in any matter.

The 3 games I mentioned had at least 1 or more of those qualities, Generations itself has none of that, which is why it's a big let down for me. I haven't played it since January last year, a few weeks after I bought it, because I finished with 100% and realized I could just play SA2, Shadow, and 06 again and still have more fun(didn't have unleashed at the time, but the warehog is really cool)

Also, my second demotivator bothers me.

You're the posting it, yet you're the one bothered :D.

I can see your point but the tough part about making multiple characters is balance in most if not all aspects.
1st, everyone should face same or at least similar difficulty so no one has greater advantage over the others
2nd, everyone should be able to finish the game on his/her own without changing character in middle of game
3rd, each character should offer significant different feel of the game

It's tough keeping balance like this.

Not that I posted it, but how it is that us "sonic fans" bashed the game where he used a gun, but "we're" fine with him and other twirling pink ribbons in the Olympics because "it's a spin-off" for kids. I mean, think of the most bada** character you can think of that you actually like(example, Spawn, Batman, most Marvel heroes), then picture him in that picture, then people being amused by it because "it's fun" knowing they hate it when they were doing what they were suppose to be doing, whoopin' a**.

All 3D Sonic Games did 1 or all 3 of these at someone point. Sonic Adventure 2 didn't follow number 2 that well(how ironic the second game didn't follow your second aspect), but at least you finished a level before switching. Sonic Heroes had you playing in teams, and switching between allies was up to you. 06 did switch in the same stage, but not for long and wasn't frequent. Unleashed switched characters, but it was under your control from the hub worlds. Even then though, having all these characters then being forced to go without them for a number of years, especially when you like a few of them more then the lone main character himself, it tends to get to you. It's like if Scorpion was taken out of Mortal Kombat, John Talbain out of Darkstalkers, or Terry, Iori, and K' from the KOF games. For sonic, it was Knuckles, Vector, Espio, and a few others.
