An offense to double Dragon! Double Dragon 2 remake...not neon!

I'm sure a lot of you know by now that a brand-new double Dragon remake double Dragon two has been released on Xbox arcade and I haven't checked yet but most likely the PSN.

Now when Wayforward came out with their double Dragon neon everyone in the openBOR community pretty much had the same opinion, that despite all the positives it's simplified GBA inspired fight system was less to be desired.  I know I was really digging the art style and the loving care in recapturing the style and flavor and sounds of the 80s the Saturday morning cartoon humor, the beautifully composed music.  Everything was right up my alley, then I played the actual game and that little reminder of how much a side scrolling brawler lives and dies on its mechanic poped up and kept me from purchasing.  It was just boring, and even though some of my favorite brawlers don't extend past one attack button and a jump button your arsenal still felt lacking.  Mainly because double Dragon has always been about its simple but very extensive arsenal of moves especially when you originally unlocked more moves as you progress through the game (something I never understood why they abandoned.) and even though neon did have a leveling up system in the form of mixed tapes which was an excellent tribute to the 80s.  Its collection of super moves and stat boosters just didn't feel like double Dragon for some reason.

But with that said, let's talk about this new SQL remake.  If you had problems with Wayforward's version of classic double Dragon get ready to look at that like it's the 16th Chapel in quality.  Because this game SUCKS!!!!!....and that's from playing it for like maybe 10 minutes.  First things first, where did it come from? it's by developer GRAVITY which I have tried to check out their history but Google searching gravity games is a nightmare and I'm not that interested in finding out.  Either way I've never heard of them nor have I heard of their publisher.  CYBERFRONT KOREA CORPORATION  which gives you the impression that this is extremely independently foreign and extremely low-budget it's very apparent in the description even though it's all spelled correctly and there's no real Eng-grish translations, it definitely feels weird in its composition, I mean just read for yourself.

"This is a remake “Double Dragon II” a 80’s game. The story line takes same as original game story. However, the graphic, character, action, system etc. are change. Also we are including new stage and enemy in the game. The player will be addicted to new version of Double Dragon II. Also, characters are undressed from 80’s style, and recreated with modern sexy and beautiful style that amaze you and feel never been experienced world before."

I don't know this was done deliberately because that description is the only real touch of nostalgia via Bimmy and Jimmy.  I especially love the sentence  "Also, characters are undressed from 80’s style, and recreated with modern sexy and beautiful style that amaze you and feel never been experienced world before." but as for the actual game...when I started up you hear possibly the worst reimagining of the original double Dragon theme, I'm sure you can go on youtube and find multiple remixes that are far superior.  When you hit start instead of the iconic scene of Merriam getting gut punched and kidnapped we get a series of still illustrations which are kind of cool at first, it appears that Merriam holds her own before being kidnapped but instead quickly becomes very rape-ish with her tits practically falling out of her shirt and a voice over of one of the twins speaking in a more menacing tone than a concerned tone "You were scared, weren't you Merriam?" then you're immediately thrown into the game with absolutely no tutorial (which I'm fine with, it's double Dragon for god sake.) while Williams goons start hammering on you before you can say got these graphics are ugly, and you're forced to deal with an unnatural control layout that of course you cannot customize.  On top of that your character moves as if he's on rails like in really bad 8-bit brawlers like renegade or Bayou Billy.  Enemies take way too much punishment to go down and whether or not you gain more moves as you progress I couldn't tell you because I couldn't get through the first stage in the demo because the music was ear bleeding awful I suppose I could turn the music down but the sound effects didn't fare any better, just everything about its presentation just screams every corner cut and every penny pinched.

I could go on but I think I went on long enough, I know that the double Dragon history is that it's the most farmed out IP according to hard-core gaming 101 leading to hundreds of versions on hundreds of platforms.  But who is ever is responsible for this should be ashamed of themselves, double Dragon deserves better than this.

Let me know you guys think?

i have it on ps3, yes its bad and we do better games/ mechanics than Neon has... but buying it supports beat em up genre and helps more games like it get developed and released.

Hey I'm in full agreement and I eventually will buy neon, but there's no possible way I would buy this piece of crap for $10 I really don't know how this got through quality control.  Don't get me wrong there's a lot of ass games on Xbox arcade, I just have no idea how total nobodies can get ahold of the double Dragon license and shit on it like this.

PS
I'm going to change the title just in case people don't think I'm hating on neon, I'm talking about double Dragon two a brand-new remake on the consuls.

I actually liked Neon, for the record.

But that's mostly because I love everything Wayforward does.

Just to clarify this topic is about Double Dragon II: Wanderers of something something. Just tried to demo... nice art but this game is total crap, ugly graphics, VERY stiff gameplay annoying music. ugh
