hope everyone's well this evening

i was just wondering if its possible to make a gif as a background?

i wanted to grab the gif background from earthbound ,the gigas fight, and cut out the fetus from
vampire savior and have him move around as a boss kicking you lol.

You can use single frame indexed gif and indexed png for background but not animated gifs
But you can spawn animated decoration and place it behind everything

yeah you need to save all the frames from the .GIF and recreate it as a panel entity, spawn this from the boss (or the level, whatever) - thou it must be spawned from the screen offset

a negative value for setlayer will spawn it behind the normal play area, adjust this as needed.

example
Code:
name      Giga
type      panel
speed   10
facing   1
setlayer   -10

anim	idle
	loop	1
	delay	10
	offset	160 240
	frame	data/bgs/giga/00.png
	frame	data/bgs/giga/01.png
	frame	data/bgs/giga/02.png
	frame	data/bgs/giga/03.png
	frame	data/bgs/giga/04.png
       etc..............

i see  ;D
i remember seeing the background move in a splatterhouse game by Nicky P. it was a transparent stage with fire moving to the left and it got me thinking that you could use animated gifs. lots of trial and huge errors later i couldn't pull it off LoL.
thank BB for the clarification and ill give that code a try Beastie
appreciate the nudge in the right way
thanks mates.

NickyP made many demos but I can't recall if any of them was splatterhouse

Anyways, about moving background, if it's not animated, you can create moving clouds or mist using bglayer or fglayer respectively combined with bgspeed

oh,my mistake.it was an edit/mod of splatterhouse. When i loaded it there's a logo animation that reads by Nick Pizanias,i thought thats who made it. checked the credits and it was Krauser.

That's a super old module though, and used techniques that are way out of date. The engine didn't directly support animated scenery then so you had to hack it with spawned entities.

Now as mentioned above you can create panel type entities to add however much animation you want. It's a very similar concept, but panel type entities have scrolling speed control for layering.
