Canceled Guardian Heroes Arcade PSP/PC

Project is halted prior to completion and will not receive further updates.
i know jugglecost is to avoid infinite combos and such but, one thing i enjoy most on original guardian heroes was get enemies in the corner and try get maximum hits i could get into them, i dont remember if bosses had some restrictions but i remember well on coomon enemies i love hit then until feel pain in my fingers eheheh
 
I gotta say, I really like what I saw in the video Jeet, good job. I also played Burnking's mod before the original game via Xbox Live, but i was actually introduced to the series by Advance Guardian Heroes. I can see it wasn't as good as the original, but it was decent in it's own right, and you even got to play as most of the characters you unlocked in the story, so unlike the original, you didn't have to stick with the same few fighters, even though in AGH, I still used a certain few.

This will also help me out with Sega Brawlers since I'll be able to add in even more GH related material to that to once your done. Don't know if you had saw that yet, but I'm using material from both the original and advance games.

Ok i finished the game, download link in the video, in the first post, i fixed the bugs and enhanced certains things. Make me know if there is ANYTHING i forgot in the game ( bugs, etc) There is two secret characters to unlock after finishing the game once, if this doesnt works , make me know too

I found a good compromise, the bosses can still be juggled, but with an harder timing, normal enemies can be juggled to death easily

Glad u appreciate, if u want to use anything for ur guardian heroes characters i'd like it,  I have seen ur mod some times ago, but i dont really have time to play theses days,but i'll try it when ill have free times, i can see you implented gunstar heroes as well? have they a shoot them up gameplay ? that could be very interesting, is green or gunstar advances sprites in?
 
I re uploaded the game, after some test i noticed small little bugs that i fixed ( like katrina running animations), now everything should be OK

For those who already downloaded the first version, just take the new BOR.PAK file and replace it with the old one, thats the only file i modified.
 
just seen your video preview the mod looks great cant wait to try it !

I also wanted to mod for psp phat but with so many scripts I don't think it will happen.  I had a idea how to save memory for psp as it is not multiplayer you could release separate mods with a single hero in each mod but I am not sure how much memory that will save.
 
I tested your mod on my psp but i have not played it all yet, but i would like to say i like the ideas and presentation of this mod, anything close to the original Guardian Heroes has to be a good thing  :). Here is some constructive criticism which i think could make the game better, i hope you don't think i'm being negative:
: remove anything that was in the original bor game, ( fonts, sounds etc)
: the first level seemed a little long for me with the enemys
: some of the bosses are too strong (undead hero, maybe i just suck  ;D)
: You could use music and assets from the psx game called Panzer Bandit, it is very similar style to GH but not as good.
: This does not feel like a remake but more like GH Arcade, how about calling it that  :P
: I know due to limitations you could not add some characters but could they not be NPC's?, at least add Randys rabbit  ;D
: I was not able to setup many combo's (again maybe i suck)

You should download from hjsplit.org. You can easily compile them as one single rar so you can play. Download the 2 parts of that mod.

EDIT: You're right, nsw. It's taking so long to download.

EDIT2: I think I was wrong about going with hjsplit. (Forget about hjsplit now.)
 
Waow really? Do you know any other upload site? the file is big bcause i added the animated cutscene from the intro, and ending scenes, wich take more space than an usual movie, since its an animated gif :/

Thks and dont forget i take ALL critics for good :), i understand what ur saying by deleting everything that looks like openbor, to make it looks like a original guardian heroes so:

1/ About the sounds i think i replaced everything , if u have something special in mind tell me which one, for the fonts  ur right i took the original ones, i tried to looks for GH fonts but never found, so i ll have to rip it myself but i have no idea how to convert ripped numbers and nletters as font.

2/the level with the skeletons? I thought it was too short so i added some skeletons group in the end, maybe u mean repetitive? since there is only 3 types of enemies in this one.

3/about undead hero, his flaming sword skill make him invincible and the wave coming after is unblockable, i suppose thats the move that give u problems? u can use the dodge up or down vs this, instead of the back dodge, but he recover this move very fast so it can be a problem, if u confirm this i can give him a slower recovery. (if you think any bosses are too easy u can tell me too)

4/I know panzer bandits well, i play it often, but i dont feel like changing the musics , i dont like ALL guardian heroes music so i kept the better ones and replaced the other with some others musics, that could fit well with GH universe.

5/ Yes thats not really a remake since there is less features than in the original, good idea with that guardian heroes arcade , i'll keep it ;)

6/ if i add anything in the game now, it will crashes , i really filled the memory to the maximum,  if someone is motivated one day he could my game,to make a PC version, with ,level up system, selecting branch, and NPC, and even more playable characters like all the originals guardian heroes , but it took me so much time to finish this and i still have my tmnt remake to continue so i dont think i will add anything for a while (just fixing stuffs)

7/for the combos that depends of the character, but lets say, for valgar :

his magic is a lightning dash, very fast, that allow u to juggle enemies after launching them with the standard triple attack combo

For most of the characters, you can jump just after a launcher, use the jumping attack, and follow it with the diving attack, it will launch openent again

If the enemy is too far u can keep juggle him with the runing attack, in any case, the strong attack and the magic attack are better to finish a combo, except valgar who can keep juggling with his magic attack.

Note that the bosses cannot be juggles forever,  specially Han and superzur, if i remember well, that need more timing to success the hit

One last thing, like i mentionned in the video, the defensive buttons are very important, vs bosses the dodge buttons specially

Don't worry, I can guide you how. Just get the numbers and letters and I'll tell you how to create your own font

The gunstars are in, including Green, and while they all have regular combo style attacks, they're freespecials are their different projectiles from the Advance games. I don't have the advance gunstars in though, but they are still in my old build of the game, and just need to be updated.

I am sure there was a feature in the engine to unload anything that you no longer were going to use, i am not sure if it still there but i think if you wanted something to unload from memory you can just use the load command in a levels text file.

An example, imagine you wanted the first boss to be removed from memory as it will no longer be needed later in the game, for this example the boss will be called, bigboss and he is the level 3 boss

so in level3.txt we just put

load bigboss 1

Now bigboss should be unloaded from memory after the level has finished, the only side effect is i think it increases load times. Give it a try but like i said before i am not sure if this is still a feature of the openbor engine.
 
I already tested this, and that doesnt works, the remaining RAM doesnt change at all, that could be really useful is that feature really works...
 
Yep, i tried the two ways, and the result was likely the same, so i choose to load everything at start, to avoid loading times
 
i had unpacked your game and start to do some tests

first change i made was change 32bits for 16bits on video.txt
i jump from 37mb usage to 33mb


also if you change your resolution to 320 x 240 you go to 30mb
now iwill try dig for more changes

jeet i have also been looking at a way to reduce the filesize of your mod, this will not reduce the ram but hopefully i have cut the size of your scene files from 162mb down to 83mb by optimising the way your gif files are saved, i will upload them to you in a pm so you can test it out, hopefully it works  :)

Btw rafhot looking at your shots, 32bit to 16bit looks to have improved the fps too :-). Not sure about the resolution change though as it wont look as good on a psp screen but thats just my opinion.
