MAME Arcade input issues

I'm not sure where to post this please direct me if incorrect!

I have the game and can load it fine. I can set the controls for 3 of the players fine. But Player 2 no matter what keys i set it to end up also forcing actions on player 1. So it's like the game is written to cross over a few keys no matter what I do. I'm binding everything to standard keyboard keys.

I actually have a custom built 4 player mame cabinet and all the directions and buttons are mapped to regular keyboard keys. But even if I set it with just the regular keyboard it does the same thing. Is there a hidden ini file or something I can custom set them somehow?

Even better is there a way to get xinput to register 4 controllers? I have them mapped to xbox controllers as well but the game doesn't register them as "gamepads" at all. I'd LOVE THIS for a party game.

Decided to split this into a thread of it's own.

@vumpler Arcade cabinets and openbor is always a tricky one especially when you have 4 controllers, everything is mapped to something like 3 times over which causes cross input issues and everyone's arcade set up is different. There's too many factors to be able to give you a correct answer.

What I would recommend is finding where your openbor save files are and delete them then use a keyboard to to remap your joysticks via options menu in which ever game is loaded, if that doesn't work then try to find which ever software you are using's openbor ini file and manually typing out each players key as it corresponds to your keyboard to joystick preference.

Omg Ty for the reply!

Do you know how to find the open bor ini id love to manually type. I can’t find it for marvel infinity war

@vumpler

the latest opnbor engine has a very weird cross over issue, but since your cabinet is a sort of same 4 controllers situation, i hope this post link can guide you....

openbor version 3691 crossover info

the problem can be solved by just mapping the controllers carefully if the modules you use give you access to the options menu
This could be the hardest thing I’ve ever tried to fix. In the Marvel infinity war folder there are minimal files. And no openbor folders with config or ini files. In saves there were 4 files and a cfg so I deleted those but still can’t map anything. As far as controllers I have two light guns as controller 1-2 but even through its 4 Xbox controllers listed after that it doesn’t see even two of them.

@vumpler

let us see a video of what the machine does when it executes openbor.

i have more experience with the nightslashers modules so you can try the standard one if you want....
you could also try and use kratus's version of openbor for your device (if its available) - it has less mapping issues, but it works for his SOR games & NSX wide 21C - it has the same device ID issues tho....
or just rename the openbor executable to something else & use a different folder if your device allows

for nightslashers x wide or nSX, you should have access to video options , audio rate options, controller options.

openbor needs your controllers to be enumerated from1 to 4, if for any reason one of your preferred devices is enumerated as 5 6, etc, it will not be detected by it.

so if your light guns are controller 1 & 2, you will have to make them 5 & 6 and re-adjust all light gun games for this change

PC's have programs like joy ID that can change the ID number of devices, but i cant remember if it "fooled" openbor

on pc, openbor has the following folders after executing:
logs, paks, saves, screenshots - and the openbor executable

on android, these folders are about the same...

THIS whole section led to me getting it all figured out thank you!!

This was the exact problem my light guns are always number one and number two I found online someone had made a way to switch it so the light guns will always be five and six but it broke all of my light gun games. So in the end I got a USB hub with toggle switches so there’s two little buttons on the top and I can just easily click those and disable the guns and then all four controllers work great and Xinput works beautifully so now it looks like I use 4 Xbox controllers instead of the keyboard amazing thank you.

For some reason it flips 3 of the buttons on player two so it flips special, jump and attack all moved over one but that doesn’t change the experience at all still very intuitive and no longer accidentally controlling the wrong character
