I have multiple OPENBOR GAMES on a $100 anbernic device (multiple CASTLVANIA, EVIL DEAD, CONTRA, MARVELs etc) that i bought to see if i just imagined playing older/remixes & newer homebrew/fan games, along with emulation of older systems as im 50yrs old & been gaming since parents took me to arcade/bought multiple versions of ATARI before NES dropped & really hooked me, MY REAL QUESTION IS & may be obvious for 99.9% of gamers on this great CHRONOCRASH SITE, but just purchased a STEAM DECK, WOULD THESE GAMES GO INTO "OPENBOR" ROM/FOLDER ON EMUDECK/BATOCERA? Been console gamer all my life (once im 💯about OPENBOR, then il explore MUGEN) SORRY QUESTION IS STRETCHED OUT BUT JUST ADMITTNG IM TOTAL NOOB GUY/GALS, (never owned/operated PC, was always console gamer) THANKS 🙌

Welcome abord.

First, it's important to explain: OpenBOR is not an emulator where you play multiple games in the same folder; it's an engine*.

Secondly, it's not an official port for EMUELEC/BATOCERA/STEAM DECK. The first two use a slightly modified version of the official Linux port, while the second uses (as far as I know) the Linux port itself. Therefore, for unofficial ports, we can't offer much help, and users should seek assistance from the developers of those ports.

Thirdly, precisely because it's an engine and not an emulator, you need to use the same build that the developer used to create the game (which are usually provided with the games). Using different versions can lead to various problems, including not working at all.

There was a change in the engine, from V3 to V4, and several more complex games won't run on V4 without updating the game's code – and that's the responsibility of the game developers.

This isn't a bug – it's about having to use the same engine the game was developed for.

Thanks, very informative as BEATS OF RAGE plays on BATOCERO but Iy may not be official & as you said... A PORT. Just learning differences in cores, emulators & engines but I appreciate your understanding I've only had STEAM DECK for few days so I am lil overwhelmed, LOL, even if not through BATOCERO, EMUDECK or EMMULEC, I'd like to figure out how to explore OPENBOR GAMES on DESKTOP MODE if possible, been reading WIKI but seems more focused on game creation. I'm patient and definitely going to stay in community and AGAIN, appreciate your kindness, ppl on reddit (not all) can totally try & make you feel so small for asking a question, which divides vs. UNITES!!! 👍
