OpenBOR Wiki Manual (Official Thread)

Hey modders and players alike, I want to say that as of this moment, I'm going to work the OpenBOR Wiki Manual more (although on and off with things like work and my mod) than I did originally. I have permission with DC now to work on cleaning up the Wiki. I want the wiki to be as par as the DC Emu one as well as other wikis with similar intentions like the ZDoom Wiki.

The first thing I would like to talk about is the 'Features' of the engine. Now, I haven't actually seen a 'at-a-glance' feature list for OpenBOR, although there are some scattered, I want to make things clear on what features do we want to boast for the engine? Just a brief list, good reasons why they should choose OpenBOR.

OH, BTW, here's some preview:

http://www.caskeys.com/arc/games/openbor/wiki/index.php?title=OpenBOR

Again, still has some problems, not to mention the history of the engine and teh community.

Thanks man. The least I would do for the community, besides, I want to give back to you guys too, to say the least.

BTW, For the features, what was openbor designed in mind? I know the talks that OpenBOR is not designed to be hardware dependent like those other 2D engines, but has an OpenGL hardware acceleration. I also know that it's sprite based, that you can make any game aside from beat em up, supports four players with gamepad and XBOX controller support, supports PNG, OGG and video ... Any other features i should emphasize?

People love graphics, and a lot of folks out there STILL think OpenBOR is the same animal as BOR.

You could note the following is supported:

-8, 16, and 32bit color.

-Any resolution.

-scaling.

-rotation.

-clipping.

-distortion.

-light sources.

-transparency and alpha masking.

-real time color overlay

-direct drawing (lines, shapes, text and images)

Really about the only thing it doesn't support is pixel shading, and if you're a maniac with script you could approximate that too.

Maybe don't say this, as it's easy to misinterpret.  We don't have hardware accelerated rendering; we just use OpenGL as a way to send the rendered screen to the display.

Well, there's quicksheet to see feature list of OpenBoR but it's just a list and you won't understand any listed command if you haven't tried them

Hmmm... I'd like to boast the ability to create platformer with OpenBoR but there are many requirements for that so why not focus on beat'm up first?

I'm not focusing on the game genres per se (plus I mentioned already in the wiki page that you can do those as possibilities because of our scripting system), I'm focusing the feature list on 'features', as in what you see in game engine project pages, where they mention support for this or support for that, capable of doing this and so on.

While thinking about that, I'll check out what I could do with Scripting basics and probably cleaning up what specific text files like VIDEO.txt does, after I'm finished with my job.

(Edit) Never mind....

You can delete your own posts btw and Remember that the engine is not that optimized on Android, just ported and therefore framerate is dependent on the hardware capabilities. BTW, post what happened on the link in my sig.

EDIT:

Missed this. BB, i might find it useful though, if you could give me a link to that.

Plus if I have some problems with it, I could just simply ask you guys at this thread to coordinate.

Hey guys, just to give you an update:

Game data files
Models.txt
Video.txt

I also edited some articles.

BTW, the advantage to the way i wrote the articles is the linkage:

Eg: I could link you to the syntax of colourdepth with no worries. I'll also try to put every single command into a redirect so that it would be linked with the syntax, that way you could just use the link

Code:
http://www.caskeys.com/arc/games/openbor/wiki/index.php?title=<command>

where <command> is the command you want to link. For now it's maxattack (which normally leads to the 'ATTACK' command, but I transferred it to a new location).

Yeah:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected 'Namespace' (T_NAMESPACE), expecting identifier (T_STRING) in /home1/caskeysc/public_html/arc/games/openbor/wiki/includes/Namespace.php on line 49

Something wrong with your server DC?

I've downloaded the more recent DCEmu OpenBOR manual that was cached by Google before DCEmu's Wiki crashed. I might put it in the wiki (as segments not as a whole) as reference, deleting the old version already placed in the wiki, but not to be updated as I might be going back to the wiki next year probably. Got some errands here and there and been focused on my game lately that I haven't catched up to Chrono Crash in a while.

Figured it out, but nothing I can do till I'm back in my office after New Year. It's nothing wrong so much as it's a version conflict. Our Media Wiki is just too dang old, and my host no longer supports the version of PHP it requires.

I'll have to upgrade Media Wiki, which despite what they say is one heck of a project.

You know what DC, i think it is nice to upgrade it. That way I can use the infobox feature in Wikipedia that requires the new Media Wiki version, plus things that I've discovered when checking on Wiki's before that I couldn't do because of the old version.

Take your time in it though. As I said, I'm focused on my own things so far and when it's ready next year, I might go ahead and dabble with it once again.
