Pak Edit Step 1

Hi Guys. I've played a bunch of openbor and now wanting to take up the challenge of editing a pak. My knowledge on the subject is minimal though. I've scoured the internet and this awesome site for tools & tutorials. I now have a pak, openbor stats, borpak ect. I'm completely lost. The only video tutorials ive seen are in Spanish which complicates things. I guess I'm asking the pro's here.. if you were to start editing a pak, what is the first couple of steps you would take? I would appreciate any help!!
 
Instead of editing paks, you could be creating one mod yourself.

Once you got openbor stats, you know what to do. I'm sure you watched the video on how to use it, right?
 
openpos had same idea i have to edit an existing gamepak, though of slight different goals...
i would like to fix the hyper final fight 3 the peace keepers here http://www.chronocrash.com/forum/index.php?topic=3508.0 so that it will play in the latest build version of openbor that way one do not have to hunt down dated versions of the OB engine just to play the gamepak

Ouch! If this hold true...then...if one would start to author an OB gamepak, one would have to couple the distribution with the build of the OB engine.  Unfortunately, it does not happen consistently, like this gamepak, I mean its like it was passed around with the assumption it will work in present and future builds of OB

I know this is a very old subject, but can you please shed some light on this?
I am also interested on converting/editing a pak to work on the latest Openbor version.
Is is something that can not be done, or does it need extreme knowledge and coding?
