I think it's time to work on a new proj, still not really in a mood to make platforms (and I haven't found any good engine yet to try out), so I made my mind up and I think I'll make something gory and horror-ish, based on Splatter House 1 (thanks Trabajos de Video Juegos , please let me know if I can or not use your module as coding template). It will feauture original graphics and original musics (mostly trash/death/grindcore metal tracks).

At the moment I only got some ideas in my mind and just a pic of the title, but I think I got the picture of the future development as regards stages, characters and storyline:

anyway, I've started working on the concept of one of the main chars, probably he will only have a 2p version with similar moves and slightly different graphic layout (as in my previous game FIRST FIGHT, just to leave the 2p option on)
I called him Tim Borago

After I talked with Damon Caskey  about the issues which happend on this topic, we agreed to move this topic to general discussion, since there is no in game content to be labelled as "work in progress". Once we have more in game content, I will move it back to WIP.

This topic was cleared from the personal discussion and I would like to ask to it to stay clean of that type of discussion.

I do like Tim's design. Maybe that art could be used on the character selection screen? That sort of design is pretty striking. Also, I wonder what the disease spread to the animals of the world is? I also think the characters from First Fight could also be included as a sort of bonus.

thanks. the animal disease is sort of... rats eating the wrong stuff (industrial waste products, in mass) which made them mad then started biting other animals, till the cycle went viral to human kind. why not, I can also include those bonus chars, even if I need a time portal to do that :D

after brainwashing up the stages, I decided that probably I'll use FIRST FIGHT as base template, so the stages will have the same structure of FF but the graphics will be totally different. Characters will be, probably, rendered 3d chars, in a simplified style as in the SCF series (SuperCrankyFighters, nvm... one of my MUGEN games... I'll probably use some of those chars as bonuses).

Sorry for double post, just an update of the proj.
The first stage is complete, with all enemies and bonuses added.
Also completed main character, he's a bit different than the concept and he will also have another name (changing it soon).
The quality of the video is poor, and the images are pretty violent so I'm putting just the link to the YT page of the video

thanks, all original graphics from scratch. only the sounds are edited from HFF1 (got to fix the audio part of the char too, now that I think of it) and the dog's running animation has been sprited using a reference pic I've found on google search
 
Nice start :D

Since the thread in help section was locked, I'd like to ask: have you solved palette problem with dogs? I really wonder how they got unused colors in their palette

 
thanks!  it's not a great problem after all.. I'll just use the available colors and replicate the chars sprites if I need more variations of them (or I'll just make newer chars). maybe someday I'll figure it out, who knows.
Update: finished 2 more stages and another enemy char: the crawling zombie. I think that I won't make the zombies look different like in RE series, rather I like the way they are portrayed in the movie "I am legend" (the one with Will Smith, one of my fav of the post-apocalyptic horror genre). So zombies will be bald, uniformed and will probably act crazy like in that movie (but they won't growl like monsters, they'll moan or something like that). They'll be a sort between the living dead from Dawn of the Dead and the genetically altered people from IAL
I think I'll play with the holes systems in a basic way as it's kinda complex, but it adds the fun. Maybe in the next set of levels I will play with platforms and pits

Update on the proj

Currently made 8 stages, 4 enemies (with palette and gameplay variants), 10 original music tracks,  some stages have holes, animated fx, 4 cutscenes as intros and transitions between some levels,  mobbing/overcrowding mass of enemies ... and it's becoming a real nightmare. I'm not sure if to make a demo though but wondering if it will be of any use for Patreon promotion or stuff like that. Probably not.

I've been working on the project on a daily base, and like many other projects of mine, it's becoming sort of a full-immersion obsession, but it's fun anyway. I renewed a bit the second set of stage by adding more cutscenes and an additional stage, also some enemies like the maggots have updated (now, if you beat one, two more spawns, making it more stressing!). Just officially started the 3rd set of stages (the factory/slaughterhouse).
Here's one of the enemies, the butcher. He will have his variants with knives and other tools, this is just the basic weaponless one who approaches the player with some jabs, but he's kinda fast and annoyingly resistent (I'll probably give him a shoulder attack too).

Reminds me of Black Ooze we have in Rise of Warduke. It has finite number of ooze to spawn though

about the maggots, yep, I made the boss spawn infinite maggots so the player has to beat him as fast as possible
about the idle stance, yup, he's a butcher/slaughterhouse worker after all, not that kind of person who's in peace with the universe, so he had to be mad somehow  ;D
these are the main enemies of the 3rd set of stages (the slaughterhouse/warehouse), still got to make the boss (clueless atm, it can be another giant monster like Pyramid Head from Silent Hill... or just a tiny little annoying monster... with chainsaws. or both, dunno... )

atm, the sets are:
- countryside roads
- city
- slaughterhouse (in progress)
more will come, just ideas for the storyline:
- caves
- laboratory
- house

this game is going to be more difficult than my first one, both in more challenging playing (player has to be really careful or it's game over) and a bit more complex development (I'm just trying more variations to make the gameplay more challenging), also the hardcore soundtrack will make it unbearable to most.... unless the player use cheats, of course, but I guess there's no fun with cheats.

The game is not officially completed, but it's in beta-testing stage (thanks to msmalik681 ), so let's say it's 99% complete.
After the final "OK" or the necessary fixes (if any problem occurs), it will be officially released, uploaded on my site (not sure if it can be uploaded here as it's nearly over 100mb).

Anyone, after the release, can also contribute with playthrough or gameplay videos, if they want... so, hang on and stay tuned!

Max upload size is 300 or 500MB, can't recall at the moment.  Either way you shouldn't have any issues.

I see, well I'll evaluate that option, thanks. Honestly I've already uploaded FIRST FIGHT here but it got erased. I don't know why it got erased (maybe after the site changed? but it seems other users have experienced this situation, really don't want to know) but I don't want to waste more MB's in uploading stuff (unfortunely, I'm on a low bandwidth cheap connection and I have to save up on consumed MB's, can't download more than a specific amount of GB's per month... and sometimes the connection "flops" and I got to start the upload all over again). This also explains why my videos are kept in low resolution, fyi.
