Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon vs. Nightmare

This is the name of the new project I started working on background sprites last time.

I was thinking about what to start in the meantime if I got stuck on King of Rage and Kunio-kun, and this is what I decided on.

The title image is as follows.

The title is *Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon*, but since I am used to the Japanese logo, it is displayed with the Japanese title.

It is also correct to read it as *Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon*.

I am completing the illustration by combining it with the original game's illustration and my own modifications. This is the selection screen.

However, personally, I think the legs in this illustration look ugly.

In the end, I modified the original drawing with my limited skills.

Actually, how an illustration style looks seems to depend on one's standards.

The game utilizes SFC-style characters.

While the arcade version is good, it is a very difficult style for me, and since I see many games that use arcade materials, I decided to take the opposite direction and go with the SFC style.

I am redrawing the enemies myself, referencing them directly.

Since I am creating something out of nothing, I expect it will take a considerable amount of time.
 

I am finally uploading a video of the game work I have been working on recently.

It will likely turn out to be a story-driven game, but I am trying to create a concept that doesn't neglect the action.
I like the result.
Sure it's early gameplay, but I already like the tweaks on sprites + colors.
Also the feeling of power + wall bounce... This si the power feeling that no other Sailor Moon game have.
I can't wait to see more of Mars in action.
And hope this project will be a great way to take some breaks from other projects ;)

I would love to see this progress, and I'm not even a Sailor Moon fan. I just feel it's a franchise that needs the touch of a competent developer like yourself. We've had lots Sailor Moon projects in the past, but the early ones were either tired BOR reskins or got too caught up in the fetish aspect. More recent projects just stalled out and didn't go anywhere.

From everything you've shown in your other work I think you could do this one justice. 💪

Although the finishing touches aren't quite perfect, I view this as the result of refinements from The King of Rage and the Kunio-kun Project. It seems those two works are what led to the emergence of this sophisticated action system.

Thank you. I am planning to implement a system based on the Sailor Moon theme that takes a direction never seen before. More importantly, I need to finish any game properly, but it takes a lot of time, haha.

This ordinary-looking female character is set to be the first boss of the stage.

Although she is an ordinary person, the game concept will depict her form and abilities changing as the evil within her merges with the power of a Nightmare.

This character has always felt inferior because the Sailor Soldiers are special.

Written like this, the content might sound heavy, but the boss's appearance could be comical or serious.
 

In this video, the attack suddenly improved, making it feel like the player is flying. Running and grab attacks have been added.

The difficulty drops significantly just by utilizing the running attack.

Enemies attack as well, but the player's running attack has a greater impact.

For the grab attack, you don't grab the enemy in the usual way; instead, you have to hit them a few times to put them in a stunned state.

You can identify this by noticing when the enemy is pushed back slightly; that is when the grab attack becomes possible.

At that moment, if you advance forward or get close enough to the enemy to close the distance and press the attack button, the grab attack motion will be triggered.
 

This video includes an added storyline.

To summarize briefly, peace has returned, but justice begins to waver due to people's attitudes.

Then, an incident occurs; as people try to hold the Sailor Moons accountable, the protagonist's pent-up emotions explode.

Friends intervene to calm the situation, and the game begins.
