Hello! I'm looking to create a side-scrolling beat'em up game where the boss battles play more like a 2D fighter. The combat controls (combos, special moves, etc) would be the same in both modes, and the game would also include a tournament mode that is entirely in 2D fighter mode.
I'm leaning towards using PainTown in conjunction with MuGen (since PainTown allows that), but I'm still curious if such a thing could be accomplished in OpenBOR, because there seems to be slightly more extensive documentation of OpenBOR and a stronger community. There are also a couple of side-scrolling MuGen mods that I could maybe use as a starting point, but again I'm curious to know if my game could be made in OpenBOR with relative ease.
The problems I am anticipating are allowing for more complex button sequences for combos and special moves (like in standard 2D fighters), as well as implementing a 2 player versus mode and the tournament mode.
Please let me know if you think OpenBOR is well-suited for this type of genre-crossing game, or if there is maybe some other engine I should be looking into (I've already ruled out Stencyl and Unity).
Thank you for your time and input!
