Simple games for beginners to look at

Macho Man

New member
The Macho Man has been downloading and playing indie games for a little while, now, and has seen that some of these games are made with the OpenBOR engine, yeah! Since I've wanted to make my own games for ages, especially beat-em-up games, this engine seems like the one to check out. But, The Macho Man has to start somewhere, yeah, so rather than start with a blank slate, I'm lookin' for something simple to start with, a fairly simple game to take a good long look at how it works, familiarize myself with what a working game's code looks like, and get a general understanding of what to do to channel MACHO MADNESS into a fuctional game, dig it!

So what fairly simple, finished games, preferably ones you could provide a download link for, would you recommend as ones to learn by modifying?

I would suggest to use initial BOR game.
Do some basic editing, then.
With the use of the manual, try to add features that you need by following how they works in the manual itself.

I learned basics this way.
But I'm certainly not the person skilled enough to give you the best advice.

Good luck

Get the original Beats of Rage pak, use extractor and look fot txt files, open and see how its done, i make some games using original BOR, o use it to make ps2 games, so i learn this way, maybe you lern too, good luck bro

MACHO MAN RANDY SAVAGE YEAHHH

OOH YEAH, I want everybody to freak out! FREAK OUT! The Macho Man is right here, and I'm gonna take it to the limit! Yeah! Ten thousand years as Intercontinental OpenBOR champion, OOH YEAH, DIG IT! I've downloaded a few simple games, and as soon as the MACHO MADNESS inside guides me to a download for PAXPLODE, it's not gonna be the sky that's the limit, no, the Macho Man is going take game creation to OUTER SPACE, OOH YEAH!

What they said, plus checking out the current manuals available. Starting with the DCEmu manual, which covers all the components of OpenBOR. I also worked on some little tutorial here, hope you can understand that, it's rather incomplete, but explains intricacies of setting up for OpenBOR modding and all that jazz.

Whatever it is your working, good luck with it.  ;)

EDITed because the wiki article isn't really 'that' complete.
