Smooth horizontal animation movement (SOR 2x)

Hello, i need your help.

How can i replicate the smooth movement from left to right of the blue light in the background?

Minute 25:05


Because if i recreate it making a lot of of copies of the same sprite but with the position a llittle modified the results will not be that smooth.
 
Yes, doing it with sprites will require a lot of sprites to make it smooth.
My idea is to use drawmethod rotate and changing the angle of the sprite for each frame (you would need to make a entity for that and place the axis on the right spot)
 
Pretty much what O Ilusionista said. You could use a bunch of identical frames, with each one hand edited to set a drawmethod, or run a loop script that increments rotation values. Personally I'd prefer the later because it's less messy and gives you much more freedom and control. Either way though, you only need one sprite.

It worked. Its a little off when it moves (its not 100% centered) but is just a matter of keep trying until i get the right spot.

I will delete a little of the leaves at the top of the tree above the center of the light so the blue light can be seen better.

Also, quoting someone does not alert them, but tagging does. So it helps to always add a tag. One last thing, your light looks good, but why just copy Streets of Rage Remake? No need to ride their coattails, you can do it one step better. Apply a dithered gradient to that light to give it a real fading spotlight look. 255 shades of blue plus dithering is more than enough. You can see what I mean from Galford's sword trails here. It's the exact same principal:

I agree with you , in fact, my plan is to add even more things to the stages and improve effects to make it look better than in Sorr, but as im a noob, i considered that its better to learn the basics first, trying to replicate what i see in Sorr.

And then with the things i learned, try to exceed what i did while i was learning the basics.

You just do it. Make a gradient image and save it like anything else. The examples are right there for you to see. It doesn't have anything to do with OpenBOR. You could theoretically use the engine's alpha mask feature, but it's overkill for this and I'm not going to get into it.

I knew this question was coming - I had a personal bet of ~two hours. You aren't doing anything wrong really, but just think about it for a moment. You have a symmetrical sprite, and rotation is always clockwise. So it doesn't matter which way the entity is facing, the rotation will look exactly the same. This is why I prefer a scripted loop over doing it manually in text. Drawmethod has a fliprotate setting that will rotate counterclockwise when entity faces left. The problem is there's just no way for the entity to know when to use it (fliprotate). Before someone chimes in and says "Just use another animation in the same model with the opposite rotation" see again: how does the entity ever know to use it? The only stable fix without any script is a second model.

There is a middle ground though. Try a scripted animation switch. Those are very simple and IIRC you already know how to do them. Add a second animation with the opposite rotation. Then use script to check the direction on spawn, and if facing left switch to the alternate animation.

I made it work a little before you made the comment XD.

I even strikethrought that part of the message and after saving the modification of the message, your new message appeared XD.

From your message i can say that i took the easy way because i didnt added anything new, i only started the animation but from the half.
In the first i used from -110 to -230 and then came back to -110.
In the second i used from -230 to -110 (to make the sprite to start from the left) and then came back to -230.



Sorry if sometimes i take too much time writing the message , its because english is not my native language so, sometimes finding  the rights words is difficult XD.

But im a little confused, does what i did count as a "scripted animation switch" ?
 
pepodmc, I don't know if it is exactly what you are looking for, but I suggest to take a look in SOR2X at the Dance Club level. As Damon Caskey and O Ilusionista said, the drawmethod is very important here.

The trick is to spawn 2 entities, each one by shifting for an opposite side (left/right) and mix them as an unic entity. The script will adjust the entity speed to move at the same time they are shifting, to maintain the same position. Here's an example:

i was trying to replicate the Sorr lights like in the video :)
But yeah, doing it by script will make the horizontal rotation be better.

i need to get used to check scripts made by other users in their respective openbor games, because , even if i dont know nearly anything about scripts, sometimes i try to do things that are already done  by others and i would have to modify only some things to make it work in my situation.

Its just that reading some of your comments saying that you need to know C programming language to do some of them is frightening  :o ;D

The sprite movement isnt perfect as i wanted to (in the center of the light) , but the shrubbery of the stage kinds of hide it a little, so is not very noticeable and looks "decent" but kratus option of using a script give a better result.
