The sound does it for me. We used to sell those things, my grandfather hit from behind with one. They might not bring you down, but they do hurt!

Sup Danno, hope you and the rest of the crew be doing well.
Over the years I lost all interest in watching sports, I don't even watch TV anymore, but I could watch wild life channels all day long but I won't go out my way to watch em.
Atleast people still be finding meaningful ways to entertain themselves.
Car jitsu...

Over the years I lost all interest in watching sports,

When I was a child I used to watch a TV programme called Transworld Sport, I loved it because it would show not only the most common sports but lesser known sports from around the world.

It was presented in a documentary style and would show sport in a much more in-depth meaningful way. As a kid I use to love watching sumo wrestling and it was one of the reasons I decided to visit Japan, to actually watch SUMO live in front of me was one of the best experiences of my life. I tried a few combat sports growing up but I hated how limiting it was and I prefered the illegal ways.

I realised it's also HOW you watch sport that is important and yeah watching sport on TV gets boring especially with the invention of the internet, I still love the creativity humans still have in sport it's one of the few expressions we humans have that's not watered down and sanctioned just yet, although "professional" sport is starting to go downhill luckily sport can still be a local and communal cost effective expression.

My mom introduced me to comics books, gaming and sport magazines back in the day, I remember Transworld covering winter sports at the time which was fascinating to me since we got no snow this side.

I'm glad you got to have such an epic experience, I wish you have more moments like that.
You can never have enough with the way the world is today.
I love Boxing, joined a Boxing gym for while last year, wish I joined 20 years ago.
I could have been a contender, now I'm just weightlifting.

Bro, people are about their sports like no other where I'm from but as far as talking go. You think they part of the team.
On my way to work, at work, on my way home. All you hear is sports, it go hand in hand with smoking but when asked to play the actual game, they rather watch.

Some of those unsual sports look like something I do over the weekend with the guys but Knuckle hop...no thank you.

That's so cool, All my mum ever introduced to me was migraines, I really can't believe how cool your mom was doing that for you. I was really into moto GP magazines and bodybuilding magazines too. I used to think when I became an adult I'd have super massive muscles and a suzuki hayabusa motorbike :ROFLMAO:

I really liked moto GP but I prefered the illegal street racing sports

I've been to Japan twice

and the second time I wanted to film the Sumo but they don't allow foreigners to film, however the second time I went I saw a monocycle race which was pretty cool to watch, I couldn't find any japanese footage but here's how it looked.

I could have been a contender, now I'm just weightlifting.

That's a good combination, I used to weight lift and box too, here's me incline pressing 200 kilos :ROFLMAO:

haven't lifted any weights since my son was born nearly 6 years ago and I'm aging like milk hahaha

It's like that here too, in england all everyone ever talks about is football (soccer) I find it one of the most boring sports out there, a lot of overpaid, overhyped crap.

FIREBALL and SHIN KICKING now thats something I could watch

It was part of our warm up in Hung Gar Kung-Fu classes ^^

You did Kung Fu?? wow NED you gotta tell me about that!!!
Yes, I used to practice it for around 9 years. I tried again my chance aroud 2019, but my adult life with art teaching and the context made it pretty hard to start again.
I still keep hope to join it again... ^^
Basically it was a modern Kung-Fu class, and at some point our Sifu got some validation from a higher Sifu praticing the traditionnal version of Hung Gar, then we started getting into even more iconic and interesting techniques(Five animals style, but mostly Tiger and Crane). The training itself was very "rough", some stuffs that modern doctors would not encourage ^^ The warmup+body enforcement itself could be 45minutes in a 2 hours training.
Then after some years, our Sifu had to stop and switched to "chinese medicine"
Some years later one of the students starter over it his own Hung Gar school, but it was kind of different to me, perhaps because of the influence of MMA + BJJ etc.
I think something very traditionnal have been lost in the process.

Yes, Kung-Fu is part of my inspiration for many things. Including the one shot comics I released last september after a crowdfunding.
It's in french ^^; So I prefered not to bother too much about it here... Even if a japaned "fan" ordered one at this time ^^

@NED I loved Kung Fu films as a kid, it's one of the biggest reasons I got into fighting as an adult, I was thinking about starting tai chi but would love to practice animal styles, not for fighting, just for exercise. When I get home later I'll see if there's any video demos to practice animal styles, any recommendations?

Great! Yes, Used to watch a lot of them. HK moves were awesome! The post 2000 era is less interesting to me.
Tai Chi can be great, even if I never practiced it. Usually traditionnal kung-fu competition is all about forms / Tao.
The fighting competition of kung fu is named "Sanda" (it kind of look like Kick boxing...)
I'm not sure I can suggest some vids.
However this video can be a good one to start with (sorry it's old school, in french, but the Sifu himself is Italian)

Been meaning to get back to you on this, I got into sketching through the comics she bought, then she got me a 8bit console and that was it.
Gaming was my life. When I think gaming, my mind go straight to the arcades and 8bit era.
I don't even care where console gaming is at, gameplay has taken a back step.
Back then I followed F1 thanks to my bro.

Man's form is immaculate, dare I say you lifted for strength, hypertrophy is my thing.

I can relate, these days I wake up at 4am just to get a session in before work. I'm at a point where I have to stop what I'm doing and do what the baby wants, so even my project is take longer to get done. So spilt milk is where I'm at, you lucky to be just aging like milk lol.

100%
I know it as soccer but to see people complain of what it's called piss me off no less then the term soulslike or story driven action adventure, games these days have a slight variations to the formula then be dropping new names for genres.
Just my take.

Same.

I would like to try the armored mma, Dark Souls already prepared me for that :ROFLMAO:

I like how our perception of large weapons can be flawed, assuming they are heavy and difficult to maneuver. It's explained quite well in this video:
A weapon that may have a range advantage in open spaces but may be limited in tight quarters.
Each weapon ultimately has advantages and disadvantages.
A nice story is that of the cane (which can be practiced with one hand or two canes in each hand), the combat stick as well as savate
(the ancestor of French fist-foot boxing): it is a martial art which can be practiced with a weighted cane/stick, ending in a point
or containing a blade.

It was practiced by pilgrims to defend themselves against bandits, having only this weapon in hand.
It is also possible to use this technique of object inertia to reuse it with any other type of bladed weapon or unarmed weapon.

I had practiced cane, stick and savate and had excellent memories of it. I think that this combat sport can therefore be included in the unusual or strange practices that @danno was trying to list. I leave you with a video and perhaps, like me, you are not insensitive to the beauty of this art:

Bru, when I saw Once upon time in China, Snake in a eagles shadow and the bodyguard from Beijing. Me and a homie went on to fight in the yard,

I love it at first glance just for the level of flexibility one must have to pull off those low profile moves. I'd love to see their training regime.

I would love to see this outside of a sport environment, This is my "problem" how much more beautiful would it be to see people killing each other in this way, a duel over land, a wife maybe, my soul yearns for the Gladiator arena hahaha.

Man's form is immaculate, dare I say you lifted for strength, hypertrophy is my thing.

Hypertrophy feels too much like cardio for me :ROFLMAO: I joke I joooke.

I got into sketching

You got anything I can look at? I'm kinda into art too but older classical stuff like oil painting.

speaking of which, have you seen the Art battle competitions?

I last picked up a pencil over a decade ago, an to be honest I usually gave it away.
A friend of mine be still going strong in the trade even after I walked away.He is on another level.

I figure I give pixel art a shot since it's more in line with what I'm busy with but aI haven't started since I'm still busy with my Openbor project.

This art competition is amazing, people that draw always impressed me since I couldn't.

It is hard to navigate new hobbies or revisit old ones with a baby on board.
Sigh....not complaining.
