Pallete?

Can anyone point me in the direction or explain how the pallete system works? In my video.txt I have colordepth to 16. I read a tutorial saying in this mode the entity references one image for the pallete and I tried that and all I got with the new image was inverted looking colors and the purple box around it. The only other tutorial I can find says it's for 8-bit mode only.
My characters and backgrounds all look really bad and I want to fix this first before I start creating all the sprites.

I appreciate all the help, hopefully I can learn a lot soon and contribute a fun game for people to play.

Thanks Nick and DC,

Sorry I had to post quick didn't get time to explain it more, just trying to help while he was still online.

How do I selects which pallete I want to use when I spawn the enemy?

there is setting for it - http://dcemulation.org/?title=OpenBORManual#Spawn_Properties

Hello,
Could anyone create me the palette for Openbor of this char?
I have tried and it has been impossible.

The resulting images should be in .gif.
Thank you.

Hello,
Thanks but still not looking good.

Do I have to configure something in Openbor to make it look good?
Can a palette be assigned to a specific char?
In that case, how is it done?
Thank you.

Hi Fran, all images of your character must have the same colour palette, you can use Palapply for that:

I see that you use Max character as a base. The problem is that Max has his own colour palette and your Ryu Hayabusa others colours.
Moreover this arcade character is a little too small to the SOR standard.
I can help you to make a new character if you have one that fits to this game.

I would like to keep the Ryu Hayabusa character and after that I will change the other characters to suit their size.
How could I create a new character with Ryu Hayabusa?
Thank you very much you are very kind

You should edit pour text file and keep only the anims that you need. No Max image here. I will help you to make your first character if you don't manage to do it.

You mean the max.txt file?
The truth is I don't know how to do it because char Ryu Hayabusa has many actions.
I share the folder of Ryu Hayabusa gifs and the file max.txt.

If you can tell me the steps.
Wouldn't it be easier to start by replacing the sprites of an already created char and changing the palette of the old char by the one of the new one?
Thank you.

Fran: You always get messy colours if you mix Max and Ryu Haybusa sprites. The images 106 to 157 of your character are corrupted and unusables.
If you let me a little time, I will make a basic Ryu character that you can edit and show you a method to set your character.

Fran: You must be well organized when you begin to set a character. The default palette used is the first frame loaded in hayabusa.txt (here idle00.png)
This is how I sort the anims outside the project (here for Moonwalker):

I use Gimp to set a palette that can make easier to create new alternate palettes:

Next, you should give the same offset to all frames of one animation:

Chronocrash modders tools is downloadable here:

I adapt your Hayabusa character to SOR2X 1.9.3 version:

Don't hesitate to ask some question here or by mp if I'm not clear ;).

Kratus: Did you change the run animation by script in 1.9.3?

Kratus: No big worries, you set the speed to 1 and there's no running parameters in your entity header, that's why the Hayabusa character won't move when he runs.

Moreover Fran, I don't think that SOR2X really suits to your Ryu Hayabusa character, I see that you have some crouching anims too, shouldn't be better to begin a new project?

Ohhh I'm amazed, finally I see the beginning of the project.
Okay, first I'll organize the sprites.
How do I create the palette in Gimp? I saw many tutorials but in the end they created confusion because the char did not look good.

Can I create a palette from this image with all the sprites together?

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1q5zTmRz2JaFid-2LFJlhGUC0g-R7mV3E/view?usp=sharing

In that case, is there a way to separate the sprites from that image with some program to use them in Openbor later?
What background color do you recommend for this sprite sheet together?

All the sprites that I've sent you have the same colour and any of them can be a basic palette image.
It's better to have only  the colour and transparent that your playable character possesses.
I recommend to use a background that is different than the colours of your character like this one:

I treat each frame individually with Paint because I need to align the sprites.
Ex: Idle01 is centered on the feet of Idle00 and so on.
