DUDE! I'm all in on this topic, lol!

Laptop:

ModelDell XPS 15 9550
CPUi7-6700HQ (2.6 GHz)
Memory16GB DDR4
GPUNVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1050
ScreenUltra High Clarity 4K with touch interface
HDDSATA3 500GB Solid State Drive

Technically it's a game machine, but I only bought it for the specs, that's not what I do with it. This is my breadwinner, and to that end it's got all the toys.

  • The Entire Adobe Creative Suite (with all the extras) - I stay on top of any updates. Currently @2017
  • MSSQL Dev Kit
  • MS Visual Studio Ultimate
  • MS Office Suite Enterprise 2016
  • Codeblocks (for OpenBOR work)
  • Github

That's really about it. I keep it clean as possible otherwise.

Desktop: I use my laptop as a desktop with following adds:

  • Dell Ultra Speed USB 3.0 Port Replicator
  • *2 Dell 54cm LED monitors

The GPU + Port Replicator can drive both monitors and the laptop screen simultaneously as one desktop, giving me a total work-space of 7680 * 2160.

Server:

ModelDell Poweredge 1600
CPUXeon *2 ~1GHZ each
Memory8GB
GPUlol NO
ScreenNone (I use terminal services unless I have to hook up some old crappy monitor in an emergency)
HDD*1 12GB SCSI, *8 2TB SATA arranged into 4 RAID 0 pairs. 8TB total storage.

Almost 12 years old, runs Windows 2003 Server, and it's still my pride and joy. I keep it back in my hometown at the family business on a T1 connection. Not the greatest access speed, but keeps it in a controlled environment. If I need something big, I just set up an overnight transfer. If I need something really big I can always drive home with my laptop (about an hour) and plug into the LAN.

Other stuff: I have several crash and burn machines not worth mentioning, but my REAL pride and joy (as in, that I have managed to keep it running) is the domain controller for my family's business. It's sitting right next to to my personal server above. Made in 1996 (yes, 96, that's not a typo) and is still humming along.  ;D

My custom PC has:
  • Intel Core i5 7th Gen 3.8 Ghz
  • 32GB DDR4 RAM
  • Radeon RX 560
  • 2 500GB HDDs (One for OS and the other for Games)
  • Windows 10

@DC

your laptop is a beast just checked your CPU on futuremark and it benches somewhere close to my 4800MQ but I have disabled my turbo boost to avoid any overheating issues as I upgraded my CPU from a 37w to a 47w. also when I game I use HWinfo to manually increase my fan speeds so I'm good. I paid £410 for my laptop just checked your laptop on ebay it about £1100 new.

My core 2 quad desktop system is using a Xeon (E5450) cpu using a LGA sticker mod it was around £20 these are budget gaming systems I made after Tekken 7 was released on steam I am switching to PC gaming.

@Sammy

Wow a 7th gen cpu I'm sure you have no problems gaming with that.  I also like separate hdd's for windows and games/documents so if windows ever gets corrupt or you just want a fresh install all your personal files are safe.  I normally partition 60-80gb off my hdd as the first partition then the rest for games that way I only need 1 hdd in my system.

wow this cpu is 136w at stock 3.2ghz what cooler are you using ?

@Kurisu

what is your cpu model you might be able to benefit from the 771 to 775 mod too !

My Mobo is an ASUS P5KPLAM-SE. It doesn't have much on the RAM slot capacity and that's a bit of a hassle.

I intend to make a machine upgrade in near future, sucks when I want to play things like DFO, Closers or Kritika and the screen starts to stutter and freeze because of low firepower.

At least I can play BoR without any issues.

Your motherboard has a 4gb/800mhz limit so upgrading would be your best option for you.

Whats your budget for your new system if you dont mind me asking.

Right now, my budget is really sparse. Started doing savings like... two months ago!

But I don't want a super speedy gaming PC and never had much interest on it. And I still have my hard disk functioning perfectly ever since I bought this machine (circa 2011)  ;D
